Family Tragedy: Scarlett Faulkner’s Brother Dies Days After Her Funeral

Scarlett Faulkner, 29, died on October 22, 2024, after sustaining serious injuries in a roadside assault near Thurles, County Tipperary, according to An Garda Síochána.

Faulkner was found by emergency responders on the R498 road between Thurles and Templemore in the early hours of October 20 and was airlifted to Cork University Hospital, where she remained in critical condition for two days before succumbing to her injuries.

Her brother, Jason Faulkner, was pronounced dead at the scene of a separate incident in Cork city on October 24, two days after Scarlett’s funeral, which was held in Thurles on October 22.

An Garda Síochána confirmed that Jason Faulkner’s death is being treated as suspicious and that a forensic post-mortem examination is underway, with detectives reviewing CCTV footage and appealing for witnesses in the Cork city area.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has been notified of both incidents as per standard procedure when deaths occur in circumstances that may involve criminality, though no further details have been released regarding the scope of their involvement.

Faulkner’s funeral service was attended by over 300 mourners, including members of the local Gaelic Athletic Association club where she had volunteered as a youth coach and a minute’s silence was observed at a hurling match in Thurles the following weekend.

A Garda incident room remains open in Thurles to investigate the assault on Scarlett Faulkner, with officers continuing to trace her movements in the hours before she was found and examining potential links to any prior disturbances in the area.

No arrests have been made in connection with either incident, and detectives have urged anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage from the Thurles-Cork corridor between October 19 and 24 to contact the confidential Garda line.
