New Delhi: Former Indian international hockey player and Olympic and World Cup medalist Varinder Singh, 75, has died. He died in Jalandhar on Tuesday morning. One of India’s all-time greats, Varinder was a member of the team that won the gold medal at the 1975 Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. India beat Pakistan 2-1 in the final.
He was a member of the Indian team that won a bronze medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics and a silver medal at the 1973 Amsterdam World Cup. He won silver medals at the 1974 and 1978 Asian Games. She also competed in the 1975 Montreal Olympics. In 2007, Dhyan Chand was honored by the country with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hockey India extends condolences on Warinder’s departure
