Madrid (AFP) – The La Liga matchday 16 match between Granada and Athletic Bilbao was stopped on Sunday following the death of an Andalusian fan during the match being played at the Nuevo Los Carmenes stadium in Granada.

The match was stopped following 18 minutes of play with the score 1-0 in favor of the Basques, with La Liga subsequently confirming that it would not resume “due to the sad death of a supporter” of the Andalusian club.
LaLiga and the two clubs “have agreed to suspend the match”, said Athletic Bilbao in a press release, which offered its condolences to the relatives of the deceased.
Granada specifies that it is one of its subscribers, who was the victim, according to the Spanish press, of a stroke.
“The date and time for the resumption of the match will be announced shortly,” said the Spanish Football League.
