The 16th edition of the “Farmers love the Tour” competition, organized by the FNSEA and the Tour de France, was won by the farmers of the Rhône. A landscape fresco paying tribute to the agricultural diversity of the region, to the Tour de France and recalling the importance of natural elements in agricultural work, was indeed awarded an award by the jury.

“Let’s cultivate the Tour of energies”this was the subject proposed to farmers for this 16e editing. Once again, the farmers proposed original works whose diversity made it possible to beautify the landscapes of the Tour de France.

The Tour de France, a fantastic showcase to highlight the territories

Indeed, for 15 years, the agricultural world has not lived to the rhythm of four but rather of five seasons. The Tour de France is a fantastic showcase to highlight the territories as a whole, and each Departmental Federation of Agricultural Operators’ Unions can thus highlight its uniqueness through works that mobilize human and technical resources that do honor to their land. This fresco competition is a highlight of the agricultural world, which requires upstream preparation and collective mobilization, between producers of the same type of product, who wish to highlight their terroir and their know-how. The issue is important: present their landscape fresco to millions of French viewers and around the world, thanks to France Télévisions helicopters.

A pedal drives a wheel recalling the richness of agricultural heritage

From 20 departmental federations involved in the two flagship events of Julythe farmers of the Rhône were rewarded for their original and dynamic interpretation of the theme: a pedal drives a wheel recalling the rich agricultural heritage of their territory. The evocation of the elements which are wind, air, water and the sun recalls the humility necessary for working the earth, dependent on natural elements. The Jura is not to be outdone, with a second place obtained thanks to its fresco where the cheese and wine heritage is honored. Puy-de-Dôme and Haute-Vienne could not be decided for 3e place: a tribute to the legendary climb for Puy-de-Dôme, the highlighting of cattle breeders and the polka dot jersey for Haute-Vienne.

Finally, special mention goes to the farmers of the Loire, who won the special Raymond Poulidor prize, which rewards an original and unexpected work. Their colorful fresco promotes the collective strength of cycling by using this well-known maxim: “Alone we go faster, together we go further”.

This sixteenth edition brings 204 the total of frescoes created since the launch of this competition in 2008. Beyond these summer achievements along the roads of the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes with Zwift, the joint work between the FNSEA and the Tour de France allows the promotion of French agricultural heritage, a promotion of the professions of agriculture, and also pedagogy thanks to the creation of terroir files to better understand the agricultural specificities of each of the territories crossed by the two events.

Theme “Lands of champions” next year

This summer, the competition will once again involve farmers on the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes route with Zwift. The men will enter French territory from July 2 for the stage arriving in Valloire and until July 21 for the unprecedented arrival in Nice. On the part Tour de France Women with Zwift, the competition will extend over 3 stages between Remiremont and the summit of Alpe d’Huez, while the start will be given for the first time outside France, 4 days earlier, in Rotterdam. “Lands of champions”, this is the problem posed to farmers to sharpen their creativity. See you on screens in July.
