A fatal accident took place during the night in Ath. A car fell into the Dender. The driver did not survive his fall into the water.
At 12:30 a.m., emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident shortly following it happened. A delicate operation. Divers and a crane were needed to recover the vehicle. “When we arrived, we still saw headlights“, says Captain Éric Stasik, from the Picardy Wallonia area.But the vehicle was completely submerged under water, more than a meter deep.”
The vehicle took a small path, just behind the parking lot of the Action store, along the chaussée de Mons. “There are very few cars that take this path“, points out the Captain.
An investigation has been opened by the police to determine the circumstances of the accident.
