A man lost his life early Friday morning following his vehicle hit a power pole in Richelieu, in Montérégie.
It was shortly before 4:45 a.m. that the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent police received calls from residents living on Chemin du Cordon. The latter, having heard a dull noise, realized that a car had hit an electrical pole not far from the intersection of Richelieu Boulevard.
Once on site, the police noted the death of the driver who was alone in his vehicle, indicated Jean-Luc Tremblay, spokesperson for the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent Intermunicipal Police Authority.

Investigators and forensic identification were dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and determine the causes and circumstances surrounding this accident. Hydro-Québec was also called to intervene to secure the scene.
To give the authorities time to do their work, traffic is alternating on Chemin du Cordon. The road should fully reopen by mid-morning, said Mr. Tremblay.
