According to the mayor, the driver lost control of his vehicle, which caught fire.
The vehicle, traveling in the Mouscron-Tournai direction, left its trajectory in the bend located at the level of the A17 motorway, in Marquain. After hitting two berms, it ended up in trees and burst into flames.
“Among the five occupants, the two adults remained inside the car on fire, while the three teenagers also died instantly, but outside the vehicle”, indicates the mayor to our colleagues from Sudinfo.

The emergency services were notified, around 1:40 a.m., for a brush fire along the expressway. “On the way, we had a second piece of information, according to which a vehicle was on fire at the level of the motorway exit located near the industrial zone. We implemented the necessary means, a pumper, a tank truck, a command vehicle, an ambulance and an SMUR”, confides Lieutenant Ratte, from the rescue zone.
At the request of the judicial authorities, the firefighters then illuminated the scene of the tragedy. The intervention ended around 7:00 a.m.
The damaged car is registered in Belgium. It would be a BMW.
The prosecution should communicate during the day on the circumstances of the tragedy.
