Two passenger planes collided over a lake in Idaho, in the northwest of the United States, with at least eight people on board, local police said on Monday that it estimated that n there is “no survivor”.
Three bodies have already been recovered from the Coeur d’Alene lake, where the two planes were damaged after colliding, early Sunday afternoon, according to the many witnesses of the scene who were taking advantage of the water in this long holiday weekend.
Authorities sought Monday to confirm the exact number of victims, including children, and their identities.
“Initial information indicates the presence of eight passengers and crew members in total on board the two planes (…) At this stage, it is estimated that there is no survivor”, underline in a press release the services of the Kootenai County Sheriff.
The wrecks have sunk and are now about 40 meters deep, say the sheriff’s services, who were able to locate them using sonar.
An investigation by the air transport security authorities was opened to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
