The owner of a farm containing about 16 predatory animals died after he was fiercely attacked by a lion and a lioness, according to the newspaper “.The Independent” British.
The newspaper reported that the incident took place in a small Slovak town called Kisuki Nove Mesto, noting that the police found only small remains of the victim’s body.
Zilina district police spokeswoman, Zuzana Sivjikova, said: “We received a report that the man did not return to his home after he went to his farm that includes these predators.”
And she continued: “All available forces and means were immediately sent to the farm for the purpose of securing the place appropriately, and there we found the remains of the man’s body, and the exact cause of death will be determined by forensic medicine.”
For her part, a spokeswoman for the emergency services, Alina Krakova, explained that “parts of the victim’s body were identified at the scene.”
Local media also reported that the farm’s owner, Joseph, had been in conflict with law enforcement since 2017 and had come under fire from animal rights groups.
The competent authorities are currently discussing what to do with the rest of the predators, with the Minister of Agriculture not excluding resorting to euthanasia to get rid of them.
The minister said: “This tragic incident may occur again, as the instinct to eat human meat usually returns to those animals.”
Joseph’s animal farm was last examined by the State Administration of Veterinary Medicine and Food in 2021, and at that time he was fined 2,000 euros (about 2,163 thousand dollars), without the reasons for imposing that fine being clear.
