DLRG warns of more bathing accidents

The beginning of the bathing season once again poses major challenges for the DLRG throughout Germany. In 2021, 299 people drowned in Germany – the lowest level since 2000.

Nevertheless, the DLRG raises the alarm. Because: There is a massive lack of lifeguards and during the corona pandemic hardly any young people could be recruited.

In Saxony alone you would need significantly more staff. “There are currently around 800 to 900 lifeguards on duty. In order to ensure adequate security, twice as many would be needed,” said Sebastian Knabe (Managing Director of DLRG Sachsen).

Danger! Especially in former gravel and lignite opencast mines, sand slides with enormous natural forces can occur again and again.
