Three people died and two were seriously injured in a traffic accident which occurred around six o’clock on Sunday morning on the A8 (E429), near Petit-Enghien.

The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m., according to the Mons-Tournai prosecutor’s office. A Peugeot 3008 car, registered in France, was traveling in the Brussels-Tournai direction when it swerved. It passed over the safety rail and hit a van traveling in the direction of Tournai towards Brussels.

Four people were in the Peugeot. The two young men in the front of the vehicle died on the spot. They were between 20 and 30 years old and would be from the region of Tourcoing (France). The two passengers, born in 2001 and 2005, were taken in critical condition to Erasmus Hospital in Brussels.

The driver of the van hit in the accident was alone on board. Marvin Loze died at the scene. He was born in 1976 and lived in the Ath region, in the village of Bouvignies.

Experts who descended on the scene have yet to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. The prosecution, however, indicated that it seems that excessive speed of the Peugeot 3008 is the cause of the swerve.
