Father and Sons Rescued After 16 Hours Adrift off Koh Samui

French Father and Two Young Sons Survive Overnight Ordeal

A father and his two young sons were rescued off the coast of Koh Samui, Thailand, after spending more than 16 hours adrift at sea on a capsized rented jet ski, according to local reports.

The 50-year-old father and his children were stranded overnight before being located by rescue teams at approximately 10:00 local time on Friday, according to AFP. Local government official Amorn Chomchoey noted that the trio appeared “pale” and “exhausted after swallowing a lot of seawater” by the time they were reached. All three were transported to a hospital for medical evaluations and were discharged shortly afterward.

Forty-Five Minute Excursion Turns Into Overnight Crisis

According to the Bangkok Post, the father had rented the watercraft for a 45-minute excursion around the popular tourist island of Koh Samui starting at approximately 17:00 local time on Thursday. Authorities launched a search after the jet ski failed to return at the agreed-upon time.

Speedboats and Jet Skis Deployed Across Choppy Waters

Search and rescue operations utilized speedboats and additional jet skis to comb the waters surrounding Koh Samui and stretch toward the nearby island of Koh Phangan. According to Thai media reports, nightfall forced officials to suspend the active search overnight before resuming operations the following morning.

Dramatic Sighting and Safe Return to the Beach

Rescuers located the family drifting at sea on Friday morning. Footage from the scene captured one of the young boys seated atop the front of the jet ski while the rest of the vessel remained partially submerged beneath choppy waves. The father, wearing a life jacket, floated nearby and waved to the approaching rescuers.

Reunion on the Shore and Decision to Stay

According to Nation Thailand, the boys’ mother and older sister were waiting on the beach when the rescue boats brought the family back to safety. Officials confirmed to AFP that the family chose to remain in Thailand to continue their holiday.
