Father’s Day in Chile: History, Dates and Traditions – 2023 Celebration Guide

Weeks following the Mother’s Day celebrations, which in Santiago were overshadowed by high traffic and closed streets, Chileans are now getting ready to celebrate the Father’s Day 2023.

As every year, the commercial commemoration was scheduled for the third Sunday of Junea parameter that this year set the family party for the June 18.

It is worth mentioning, however, that this is not the “official date” of Father’s Day in Chile, which was established by decree in 1976. In that document, the day chosen was June 19; that is, one day following the commercial date that will be held this 2023.

In the document, today online through the digital platform from National Library of Congressthe reasons that prompted the regulation are explained.

“There are currently several days in which citizens honor those loved ones who are an integral part of the family or who are closely linked to it,” details the first of the considerations.

The second, adds: “Most of these celebrations correspond to a spontaneous expression of the inhabitants of the national territory, without having official recognition by the Government.”

“The Supreme Government, aware of the high value that the family represents for the people of Chile, has decided to grant each of these days the character of National Day”, points out the third consideration before detailing the dates for the days “of the Elderly and Grandfather; of the woman; of the father; of the Mother: of the Child; and the Master.”
