FC Bayern: Michael Ballack criticizes Julian Nagelsmann for the Leverkusen line-up | Sports

Coach criticism from Michael Ballack (46)!

Die Bayern lose 2-1 in Leverkusen. And have to cede the top of the Bundesliga table to BVB during the international break.

One reason for the bankruptcy: a tactical decision by Nagelsmann! At least that’s how Ballack sees it.

Ballack was in action as an expert for DAZN at the top game. And already at half-time in a conversation with presenter Laura Wontorra, she criticized Bayern’s line-up and direction.

Especially in the first round, the record champions left Leverkusen a lot of space and the Rhinelanders didn’t start as high as expected. The result: Strong players from Leverkusen who had several top chances.

Ballack: “We have to adjust the (von Nagelsmann, d. editor) questioning. It was just a tad too defensive, it shouldn’t have been.”

At the break, Nagelsmann couldn’t care less. A goal from Joshua Kimmich (28) in the 22nd minute gave Bayern a lead in the dressing room.

In the second round, however, Leverkusen turned the game around with two penalties. Ballack: “A defeat like this is always explosive at Bayern. The international break is a disadvantage for Bayern. This will gnaw at the players. That makes you nervous.”

And the former DFB captain did not like another Nagelsmann decision at all! The Bayern coach used Joao Cancelo (28) as a right rail player and also played with a defensive back three.

Asked about possible reasons for Bayern’s bankruptcy, Ballack said: “Julian Nagelsmann with his decision to let Cancelo play on the right – and with the back three. Bayern also have to ask themselves questions internally. Still, it wasn’t that bad.”

And further: “Cancelo on the right side and Pavard as a right defender did not stand on each other’s feet, but Cancelo is given away there.”
