When he joined FC St. Pauli on a free transfer from Hibernian FC in the summer, Jackson Irvine (28) was only known to insiders. A few months later, the Australian international (45 appearances) has already made himself indispensable in the Kiez. As a guy – and as a player.

Irvine hasn’t missed a game since Matchday 5, his regular spot is actually on the right in the midfield diamond.
Against KSC he could now celebrate his debut in the starting XI in the sixth position. Because regulars like Eric Smith (injured), Rico Benatelli (training deficit) and Afeez Aremu (back after a three-month break) will probably have to be replaced. No problem for Irvine, in Australia’s national team there is his regular position.
Irvine has long lived in the hearts of fans. Also because he is a real role model. He lives with his girlfriend Jemilla in the Schanzenviertel, he travels by bus and train to training: “I like this urban, alternative style that characterizes the entire district here.”
