“Shortly following Election Day, the defendant also sought illegal means to discount legitimate votes and subvert the election results,” the indictment states.

Trump is expected to appear before a judge in federal court in the city of Washington this Thursday, August 3, at 4:00 pm Miami time, the Department of Justice announced.

The judge will be the same one who received the accusation once morest him this Tuesday.

What else does the indictment include?

Special counsel Jack Smith included six other unindicted and unnamed co-conspirators in his indictment once morest Trump.

Among those six people are four anonymous lawyers who allegedly helped Trump in his effort to subvert the results of the 2020 election.

Also listed is an anonymous Justice Department official who “attempted to use the Justice Department to open false investigations of election crimes and influence state legislatures with deliberately false allegations of voter fraud.”

Smith also mentions an “unidentified political consultant who helped implement a scheme to submit fraudulent lists of presidential electors to obstruct the certification process.”

“He was determined to stay in power”

For their part, federal prosecutors claimed in their indictment that Trump “was determined to remain in power” following losing the 2020 election.

“Then, for more than two months following Election Day on November 3, 2020, the defendant spread lies that there was fraud that determined the outcome of the election and that he had actually won,” the indictment reads.

“These claims were false and the defendant knew they were false,” they added, referring to Trump.

“But the defendant disseminated them anyway, to make his knowingly false claims appear legitimate, create an intense atmosphere of mistrust and anger, and erode public faith in the administration of the elections,” it added.

In addition, the indictment alleges that Trump and his co-conspirators “used” the attack on the US Capitol on January 6 to their advantage by continuing attempts to convince members of Congress to delay certifying the election that day.

The document also claims that Trump had misled many agitators into believing that then-Vice President Mike Pence might change the election results so that Trump would be the victor.
