prevention of workplace violence; safety and health protection for parcel and delivery services; Compliance with hygiene regulations for protective equipment

Vienna (OTS) According to the common principles of the European labor inspections, nationwide priorities for labor inspections are set annually in an annual work plan. These are agreed annually on the basis of proposals from the Labor Inspectorate and the Central Labor Inspectorate, and the concrete implementation is worked out in working groups. In addition to this, regional focal points are also planned by the labor inspectorates.

Subtitle: Prevention of work-related illnesses: Violence as an occupational hazard?

Violence in the professional context continues to be an important focus. “Any form of psychological and physical violence in the workplace must be rejected and avoided with all available means. Especially in the work environment, it is often not easy for those affected to get help and draw attention to the violence that is taking place, as they fear the consequences. Therefore, the labor inspectorates make an important contribution to violence prevention within the framework of this priority. The goals are to raise awareness and address the issue, as well as to develop and show opportunities in the area of occupational safety,” said Minister of Labor and Economic Affairs Martin Kocher.

Zwtl.: Safety and health protection for parcel and delivery services

The precarious working and employment conditions in some parcel and delivery services repeatedly cause a stir and at the same time damage the reputation of those companies in this area that act honestly. “The industry has become immensely important, particularly as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This can not only be seen in the number of employees, but is unfortunately also visible in the accident statistics. Typical problem areas are, for example, excessive working hours, night and weekend work, unsuitable work equipment and mental stress. That is why we will also focus on this area for the work inspections in the coming year,” says Kocher.

Zwtl.: Advice offensive on compliance with hygiene regulations for protective equipment

It is repeatedly found that protective equipment is not properly cleaned and stored after use – during ongoing operations and after the end of the service. “Failure to clean wet or soiled protective equipment can create health and safety risks. With this control focus, we would therefore like to gain information about the current status in this area and achieve a reduction in dangers and stress caused by the use of unhygienic protective equipment by sensitizing the affected groups of people to this,” concludes Kocher.
