Fees reduced, visa can be applied for from anywhere in the country; Germany with concessions for Indians

German Embassy has good news for Indian tourists who are planning to travel to Germany. Indian citizens applying for tourist visas will get more concessions, embassy officials said. Earlier, visa application fee charges were reduced and more concessions were added.

According to information provided by the German Embassy in India, applicants can book appointments and submit Schengen visa applications at all Visa Application Centers run by VFS Global across the country, irrespective of their place of residence. Also if the application center near the applicant’s home is fully booked, they can check other major Indian cities for available appointment slots. It makes booking appointments easy.

But this relaxation in the rules does not apply to Indians applying for national visas such as employment, student or family reunification visas. Applicants for a German student visa must submit their application along with two recent photographs and a valid passport. Passport must be valid for three months beyond the date of travel. Last month, Germany made it mandatory for Indian students to have their academic records evaluated by the Academic Evaluation Center (APS) and obtain a certificate of authenticity before applying for a student visa.

In addition, all applicants must submit health insurance, round-trip travel reservation, proof of financial means, proof of residency and an invitation letter with their application. Applicants may also be asked for additional employment-related documents.

Earlier last month, the embassy announced a reduction in processing fees for long-term national visas and short-term tourist visas. Reduced fee rates for national visas that allow the holder to enter Germany for a specific purpose. Schengen visa fees have also been reduced.
