The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, this Friday downplayed the importance of the powers of the central government, praising on the contrary the regional and local executives led by his formation. “We are the party with the most responsibility in government and in the closest administrations that solve people’s problems,” Feijóo stated from Córdoba, where this weekend he meets behind closed doors with the popular barons. Taking advantage of the conclave in the Andalusian city and the celebration of International Women’s Day, the popular leader has gone one step further in the opposition strategy coordinated by the territorial administrations by announcing a package of conciliation measures that will be implemented in the short term in the autonomies where they govern—“70%” of Spanish society—.
The meeting called in Córdoba by the Popular Party, attended by both members of the leadership and all the regional presidents, has been organized precisely to “agree on strategic lines of action on key issues” in all the territories led by the Popular Party. The resistance of the PP to the central Government in a coordinated manner from the autonomous communities began to be noted with the announcement, at the end of January, that the autonomous Executives of the Popular Party will promote common university entrance tests. And, this Friday, Feijóo has added a new plan regarding conciliation, although without revealing the details.
The president of the Popular Party has pointed out that the main obstacle to the “real equality” of women has to do with motherhood, emphasizing the term “real equality” on several occasions during his speech to convey the idea that the Government coalition attacks non-real equality and, expressly, a trail of “occurrences.” “The pending revolution in terms of equality is conciliation,” added Feijóo, who has announced a conciliation plan that the national leadership of the party has been working on for some time and that they will implement in all the autonomous communities where he governs. .
The coordinated offensive from the popular territories was reflected two months ago in the conclusions of their 26th Interparliamentary Meeting held in Ourense, during the pre-campaign of the Galician elections. “From our autonomous governments we will strengthen collaboration and coordination between regions to improve the quality of public services and the defense of citizens’ interests,” indicates the text prepared after the PP event held in the Galician city.
In Genoa they have been pondering how to intensify the offensive from the dozen fronts spread throughout the country, given the room for maneuver allowed by the delegation of regional powers, with sectoral meetings at the national training headquarters. And the meeting of the barons and Feijóo in Córdoba aims to share coordinated actions against the coalition government, just after PSOE and the pro-independence forces have agreed on the final ruling on the amnesty law. And that Sánchez boasts of stability and a legislature that is going long after the agreement reached this Thursday.
On the other hand, Feijóo has used the celebration of 8M to attack the Government for the alleged corruption schemes of the Koldo case and of Tito Berni, which have affected members of the PSOE. “It is curious that those who raise the flag of feminism are clients of brothels. Just as you cannot give lessons on corruption, after amnesty, you cannot give lessons on equality to a party that has in its biography the law of only yes is yes and after the Koldos and of Tito Bernis”, said Feijóo. He has also defended that the PP has treated inequality as an “objective” problem for which its party “has sought solutions” and “not political profitability.”
