Félix Auger-Aliassime’s Complicated Journey to Wimbledon: The Latest Updates and Preparations

Félix Auger-Aliassime’s journey to Wimbledon is getting more complicated. The Quebecer withdrew for the Halle tournament on Sunday, two weeks before the London meeting.

Auger-Aliassime has not played since his defeat at Roland-Garros on May 29 against the Italian Fabio Fognini. He was then recovering from shoulder and knee injuries, and he suffered from gastric problems before his match in Paris.

I came [à Halle] thinking I would be ready to play, and sadly I’m not,” Auger-Aliassime wrote on Instagram. I’ve had some great moments on the court here over the past few years, and I can’t wait to come back here healthy next year. I will now focus on doing everything I can to be fit for Wimbledon.

The 11th racket of the ATP was to face the former world No. 3 Dominic Thiem for his debut in Halle. It is rather the German Alexander Zverev who will have an appointment with the Austrian, who benefits from a pass.

After Halle, only tournaments in Mallorca, Spain, and Eastbourne, Britain, are within reach of Auger-Aliassime as preparation for Wimbledon. The third major tournament of the season begins on July 3. Auger-Aliassime’s best result on the London lawn is a presence in the quarter-finals, in 2021.
