Feronia: Organic shrimp from Wildenau | Nachrichten.at

Organic shrimp from the Innviertel? After years of research and testing, master mechanical engineer Andreas Aigner has managed to produce his “White Tiger Shrimp” economically but completely sustainably in a saltwater basin near Eberschwang under the company name “Aigner X”. He has done this with the oö. Feronia Sustainability Award advertised.

The biggest challenge, he says, is getting by without antibiotics and chemicals. There are no supply chains for him, “everything we need is produced or manufactured directly on our farm”, and there is no environmental destruction caused by soil salinization like in many other countries. Customers pick up the shrimp from the farm; it couldn’t be fresher. The quantities produced are not yet large, but whoever gets a few of the sea creatures is lucky. On Tuesday, the Innviertel shrimps were set to “sold out” in the online shop.

The Oberösterreichische Nachrichten launched the Feronia Prize together with the Oberbank and the state of Upper Austria to honor sustainable and climate-conscious companies, initiatives, schools and clubs from Upper Austria.

Submissions can be made in four categories until February 3rd at /feronia. The deadline for entries is February 3rd, and the award will be given at the gala in Linz on March 14th. There are great prizes in every category.
