Ferrero’s Arlon Plant Halts Production due to Salmonella: Precautionary Measures in Place

Italian chocolate maker Ferrero has halted production at its plant in Arlon, Belgium, due to salmonella. “All production has been halted,” a spokeswoman for the candy maker said today. The bacterium was discovered there at the end of June. Parts of the Kinder chocolate products from the same factory were affected by salmonella contamination last year.

The Ferrero spokeswoman stressed that the factory was “not closed” and that the salaries of the employees were “one hundred percent covered”. The cleaning will take about two weeks. The company described the production stop as a purely precautionary measure and emphasized that no end product had tested positive for salmonella.

In April 2022, Ferrero had to recall certain children’s products due to suspected salmonella, including surprise eggs, chocolate bons and mini eggs. Arlon in the Belgian Ardennes is an important location for the confectionery manufacturer, which is known worldwide for its brands Kinder and Nutella, among others.
