Feu: A Captivating Dance Performance Exploring the Power of Fire | Lyon Dance Biennale

Whether he thinks he can tame it or suffers its burns, human beings have always been fascinated by fire. A hypnotic movement, a characteristic sound but also a power both protective and destructive which have inspired a plethora of works since the dawn of time.

Among them, the choreographer’s latest creation Fouad Boussoufthe aptly named Feu. Incarnated by eleven dancers from Lighthouse – National Choreographic Center of Le Havre (of which Boussouf is the director), the work tames not fire but fires. Because from those that live within us to those that we surround ourselves with to keep warm, the flames here are both personal and shared.

With Fêu, the Franco-Moroccan choreographer further integrates the influences of hip-hop dance from his beginnings in contemporary dance. The result is a crackling and timeless work in direct connection with immemorial times, when the first dances took place around the hearth.

Invited by the Lyon Dance BiennaleFouad Boussouf and his troupe present Fêu to us at the Théatre le Toboggan, in Décines.

Filmed on September 30, 2023 at the Lyon Biennale.
