fewer patients in hospital and intensive care units

The number of people in hospital and in intensive care units due to Covid-19 continued to decline on Monday, as did the number of cases detected, according to the latest official figures.

French hospitals currently have 31,532 patients with Covid compared to 31,621 on Sunday (and 33,447 a week ago). The number of new admissions (2,215) was however up from the previous day (697) or seven days earlier (328).

The number of people hospitalized in critical care units, which treat the most serious cases, particularly in intensive care, is also down, with 3,296 patients (including 311 daily admissions) against 3,305 the day before, and 3,622 a week ago. . This figure has been falling for several days.

Now largely dominant, the Omicron variant causes less severe forms of Covid, which results in shorter hospital stays and a lower risk of going to intensive care.

As for contamination, the decline continues, confirming that the fifth wave of the epidemic has begun to ebb. In 24 hours, 26,475 positive cases were recorded, against 86,562 on Sunday. The numbers are always lower on Mondays because of the weekend. But over a week, the decline also continues: on average over the last seven days, this indicator stands at 132,990 against 237,663 the previous Monday.

Deaths, up sharply since November, remain at a high level, mainly among unvaccinated and immunocompromised: 385 people were killed by the disease in 24 hours, and 107 the day before.

Some 54.1 million people have now received at least one injection (80.3% of the total population) and 53 million are fully vaccinated (78.7% of the population). 37.86 million people received a booster dose.

From Tuesday, to keep a valid vaccination pass, the booster dose of vaccines against Covid-19 must be carried out no later than four months after the end of the initial vaccination schedule, except for those who have contracted the disease since then.

The maximum period for recall was up to now seven months.
