Anti-government demonstration

Several thousand people demanded the resignation of Interior Minister Sándor Pintér on Friday evening. Péter Magyar once again called for the demonstration.

The reason for this was other current cases of attacks by pedophile educators in children’s homes, which, after their disclosure, are now being prosecuted by the public prosecutor’s office. “Enough!” – chanted the crowd in front of the Interior Ministry building in Budapest, demanding immediate reforms to child protection, including significantly improved funding for institutions, as well as the resignation of the politically responsible minister and the abdication of the Orbán government. Fidesz is not addressing the problem with its laws, but is simply passing responsibility onto the courts. Magyar called for a special police unit to specifically deal with pedophile crimes.

Anna Donáth caused a stir among political scientists: The chairwoman of the liberal Momentum wrote on social media in a post with a photo that she supported Péter Magyar’s rally. The opposition politician explained this with her solidarity with all efforts for efficient child protection. Of course, opinion polls show that Péter Magyar’s new TISZA party is primarily stealing momentum from the electorate. In individual comments, the Momentum chairwoman’s participation in the Magyar demonstration was viewed as political suicide.

Weeks ago, Péter Magyar called for the next big anti-government demonstration on Mother’s Day, May 5th. However, in contrast to the previous demos, this will not take place in the capital, but in Debrecen.
