Fierce storm causes tornadoes and blizzard

Dallas.– A storm that swept the country spawned tornadoes that tore apart homes and injured a handful of people in parts of Oklahoma and Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth area; most of the central United States from the Rocky Mountains to the Midwest braced for blizzard-like conditions yesterday.

A line of thunderstorms that swept across north Texas and Oklahoma brought tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and heavy rain, National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Bradshaw said. Authorities reported damaged homes and businesses, and injured people.

In suburban Fort Worth, photos sent by the North Richland Hills Police Department showed a home with no roof, a tree snapped in half and an overturned vehicle in a parking lot. Some 20 homes and businesses were damaged.

In nearby Grapevine, police spokeswoman Amanda McNew said there have been five confirmed injuries, but no deaths or life-threatening injuries, from the storms.

Near Decatur, the Wise County Office of Emergency Management said one person was injured by flying debris while riding in their vehicle, and the other was injured when their vehicle rolled over due to high winds.
