FIFA President Gianni Infantino Faces Ethics Complaint Over Trump Ties

The president of FIFA Gianni Infantino is the subject of a new ethics complaint due to his relationships with Donald Trump. FairSquare accuses him of seeking to curry favor with the American president and thereby violating FIFA rules.

As reported by “L’Équipe”, FairSquare has filed a supplementary complaint with the FIFA Ethics Committee. In this document, the organization specifically accuses Gianni Infantino of abuse of power, a violation of political neutrality, and a breach of his duty of loyalty.

According to the document, the 8 cited incidents are all related to Donald Trump. Four of them had already been the subject of a complaint filed in December 2025. This followed the widely criticized awarding of the new FIFA Peace Prize to Donald Trump during the 2026 World Cup draw.

The complaint, excerpts of which were reviewed by the DPA news agency, states that taken together, they provide compelling evidence that the FIFA president, in his efforts to curry favor with the US president, at a minimum abused his power, violated his duty of political neutrality, and breached his duty of loyalty.

An initial complaint without response. The British NGO FairSquare has approached the FIFA ethics committee to request the opening of an investigation into Gianni Infantino. It accuses the president of the world football governing body of a series of alleged failures in his obligations of political neutrality and loyalty, all linked to his relationships with Donald Trump.

Gianni Infantino is once again the subject of criticism regarding his relationships with US President Donald Trump. The British NGO FairSquare has approached the FIFA ethics committee to request an examination of “repeated violations” that it attributes to the organization’s president. According to an eight-page document consulted by L’Équipe, the organization lists eight incidents, presented in chronological order, all focusing on the links between Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump.

FairSquare believes that these facts could constitute violations of the FIFA Code of Ethics. The NGO also considers that these different episodes must be analyzed as a whole. The first four facts cited date back to last year. Two concern specifically the peace prize awarded by FIFA to Donald Trump, while two others concern messages of support published by Gianni Infantino on Instagram.

The human rights NGO FairSquare intends to continue its fight against Gianni Infantino. After seeing its complaint against the FIFA president rejected by the ethics commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in July, it now intends to file a complaint with the investigatory chamber of the FIFA ethics commission, our colleagues at L’Équipe report.

FairSquare denounces Infantino’s “repeated violations of political neutrality,” as he has regularly displayed his proximity to US President Donald Trump. The British NGO highlighted eight incidents between December 2025 and today, all linked to Trump. The most ostentatious is the famous FIFA “Peace Prize” presented to the American president by Infantino last December on the occasion of the 2026 World Cup draw.

The NGO also reproaches the FIFA leader for having, on several occasions, openly displayed his support for the policy pursued by Trump, also appearing with a cap in the colors of America—Gianni Infantino with a “USA” cap during a meeting of the Peace Council, a body created by Donald Trump. “A serious breach of the duty of loyalty.”
