FIFA will soon no longer be called FIFA

There were rumors for a long time, now it’s official.

“FIFA”, the football simulator for the console, is history. As developer Electronic Arts announced, there will still be a football game in the future – this will be called “EA Sports FC”.

The reason for the realignment: the decades-long cooperation with the world football association has ended.

Side effect for the gamblers: You will no longer be able to replay world championships in the game.

But: According to the manufacturer, everything “that made the previous games stand out” should still be there. We continue to work with license partners, such as leagues, stadiums, clubs and players.

The “New York Times” reported that the negotiations to extend the partnership had failed, among other things, because of the money issue. Fifa wanted more than double the previous amount ($150 million per year). EA also did not want to accept that Fifa wanted to sell licenses in their name in online games such as “Fortnite”.

As the “Spiegel” reports, the license negotiations failed not only because of the money. It would also be about freedom in development.
