Qatar got off to a bad start in their World Cup. It was indeed beaten 2-0 by Ecuador in the first match of the tournament. Enner Valencia (16th pen / 31st) scored twice for the South Americans.
This part was one-sided. The Ecuadorians took their opponents by the throat from the kick-off. They were better in all areas of the game, especially in duels, physical impact and intensity.
Never before has a host country lost in the opening match in front of their home crowd. We can already say without taking big risks that the Qataris will not go beyond three matches. Their next opponents in this group A, Senegal and the Netherlands, also seem to be of a completely different caliber.
