by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Nadi, Fiji – Ailava Samuel, representing Fiji, has been crowned Miss Pacific Islands 2026, bringing the title back to Fijian soil after a six-year gap. The 19-year-old Samuel triumphed over contestants from six other Pacific nations in a pageant held in Nadi on February 15, 2026, according to FBC News. Her victory marks the fourth time a Fijian woman has claimed the prestigious title, following Anne Dunn’s win in 2016.

Samuel’s win wasn’t solely based on her overall performance; she too secured the “Best in Interview” award, demonstrating her eloquence and thoughtful responses. The pageant, which focused on regional issues like climate change, crime, culture, and the role of Pasifika women in leadership, saw Samuel resonate with the judges and audience alike. The crowning ceremony took place after a Super Rugby Pacific match between the Fijian Drua and Moana Pasifika, further amplifying the event’s reach and national pride, as reported by Productive Clue.

In her acceptance speech, Samuel expressed gratitude to her family and support team, dedicating her win to the entire nation of Fiji. The crowning was performed by the outgoing Miss Pacific Islands, Litara Allen of Samoa, symbolizing the passing of the torch and the continuation of the pageant’s mission. ABC Pacific confirmed the handover of the crown and sash.

Runners-Up and Award Winners

The competition wasn’t just about the crown. Several other contestants were recognized for their individual achievements. Iampela Popena of Papua New Guinea was named the first runner-up and also received the awards for “Best Traditional Wear” and “Miss Internet.” Samoa’s Iliganoa Feagaimali’i Soti secured the second runner-up position, while Tonga’s Siosi’ana Patricia Taumoepeau was awarded third runner-up, along with “Best Sarong” and “Miss Tourism.” Cook Islands’ Petra Mataiti took home the fourth runner-up award, as well as “Best Talent” and “Miss Photogenic.” Kiribati’s Atiterentaai Rinimarawa was recognized as “Miss Personality.”

The pageant brought together contestants from across the Pacific, including representatives from American Samoa, Kiribati, and Tonga, as highlighted in PMN News. The event served as a platform to discuss critical issues facing the Pacific region, moving beyond traditional beauty standards to address pressing concerns.

Ailava Samuel’s journey to the crown began with her appointment as Fiji’s representative after being named first runner-up in the Miss Fiji 2025 pageant. Fiji Village reported that the decision to appoint Samuel followed the inability of the original titleholder, Dr. Peggy Ravusiro, to finalize arrangements due to her medical internship commitments.

As Samuel embarks on her reign as Miss Pacific Islands 2026, she is expected to champion the causes highlighted during the pageant and serve as an ambassador for the Pacific region. Her success is a source of national pride for Fiji and a testament to the talent and dedication of young women across the Pacific. The focus now shifts to how Samuel will utilize her platform to address the challenges and opportunities facing the region in the coming year.
