Hani Abu Ridah, a member of the Executive Bureau of the International and African Football Confederation and former President of the Football Association, spoke about the crisis of Amr Warda, the national team player, during the 2019 African Nations Cup activities.
Abu Raida said in television statements: “The technical staff of the team informed me of the decision to exclude Warda, and informed them of my support for the decision based on what was presented to me.”
“I went to the camp, and I found all the players of the national team in solidarity with the request to return the player, and in the presence of the Minister of Sports, and Mohamed Salah, and asked him to give him a second chance.”
Abu Rida followed, “The players pointed out that the first information that the incident took place during the current camp, and that it had been a long time ago, was incorrect.”
“They came together and demanded that I deal with the spirit of the father. It was to accept their request not to disintegrate the team and strike the morale of the players during an important tournament, and to end the tension between them and the technical staff during a very difficult stage of the tournament.”
The Egyptian team bid farewell to the 2019 African Nations Championship at home against South Africa in the round of 16.
