Film and television awards “Golden Globes” are awarded

The Golden Globes will be awarded for the 80th time in Hollywood on Wednesday night. The prestigious film and television prizes are awarded by the Association of Foreign Press (HFPA), which has recently been heavily criticized for its lack of transparency and diversity. At the top of the list of nominations is “The Banshees of Inisherin” by Martin McDonagh with eight entries. The Viennese actor Felix Kammerer is in the running with “Nothing New in the West”.

The film adaptation of the classic novel by Erich Maria Remarque has a chance of winning the award for best non-English language film and faces competition from Argentina (“Argentina, 1985”) or Belgium (“Close”). “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Top Gun: Maverick” have been nominated for best drama, while the comedy/musical category includes “The Banshees of Inisherin” as well as “Triangle of Sadness” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. The gala will once more be broadcast live on television this year, with US comedian and actor Jerrod Carmichael acting as moderator.
