Film production in Bollywood, which is a key component of India’s cultural identity, is facing a historic economic crisis, which has made way for foreign streaming platforms and South Indian productions to take center stage.

Cinemas in Bombay, which is the main center of Bollywood film production, are witnessing a great deal of calm. And it continues to generate low revenues even after the pandemic-related quarantine has been lifted.

India, home to 1.4 billion people, produces an average of 1,600 films a year, the highest number of films produced by a country in the world.
