Film review of “Into the Ice”: trip to Greenland shows the consequences of climate change

by Gabriele Flossman

Today the world public is discussing the consequences of global warming. But no one knows how quickly all this will happen. Computer simulations and satellite images do not explain enough. You have to get on the ice.

This is the opinion of a team of international scientists who set out on a life-threatening mission for this documentary. Campino, lead singer on “Die Toten Hosen”, lends his voice to the environmental documentary. He tells of how the ice is melting and the sea level is rising. He warns of droughts and hot summers as indicators of global climate change. We know all that. But this cinematic journey through Greenland makes the frightening consequences of climate change visible – with monumentally beautiful as well as frightening images. The way research is staged here as a highly emotional adventure also has something sensational that sometimes breaks the framework of a science documentary in an uncomfortable way. But you won’t get bored with this environmental thriller.
