The governor of Sucre, Héctor Olimpo Espinosa, announced this Tuesday that the final closure of the embankment at the height of ‘Caregato‘, in the zone of La Mojana, It will be next July.
This was stated during a meeting to monitor the works attended by the dDirector of the Sucre Risk Management Unit, Arnaldo Vergara; José Ricaurte, director of the Bolívar Unit, representatives of the Social Pact for La Mojana; Marcial Chávez, mayor of the municipality of San Jacinto del Cauca and the legal representative of the Rectificadora del Cauca company, among others.
The objective was to socialize the advances in the works that are being implemented at this point of the embankment that broke in 2021.
“We are analyzing the hydraulic adequacy and analyzing which is the route to follow, among others, in order to socialize the advances in the works that are being implemented”he added.
“We hope that in July we can give you the announcement that this tragedy in Caregato has stopped, and that we managed to interrupt the entrance of the waters to La Mojana through that sector.”, he indicated.
Next week they expect the visit of the Director of the National Risk Management Unit, Olmedo López, to tell you about the progress of the action plan. “We are going to see how the National Government is going to come to complement or establish definitive works in the sector, in such a way that it guarantees the permanence of the interventions that have been made and that this does not happen again ”.
Espinosa highlighted the “great effortbetween the communities and the Governorates of Sucre, Bolívar and Córdoba to advance the works of hydraulic recovery of the Cauca river.
To date, they have built a 120-meter stake on the left bank and 60 meters on the right, they have installed 1,203 big-bags, while the dredgers have worked 590 hours.
“We will continue working hard so that this problem ends 100%”, expressed Arnaldo Vergara, director of the Sucre Departmental Risk Management Unit.
