sunfaller redditor on subreddit Final Fantasy XIV revealed that he originally bought the Epiphyllum cactus because it looks like a flower in the hair of Yotsuyu Go’s antagonist Brutus. However, it took three years for the cactus to bloom.
It is difficult to say what is the reason for such a long wait, but it is known that Epiphyllum should not take three years to bloom. Flowering requires enough direct sunlight, but not too much to harm the cactus. A balance is needed between light and direct sunlight, as well as fairly regular watering.
