At Apple’s September 2023 event, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max devices were announced with a programmable action button in place of the existing switch that puts the phone into silent mode. This button can be programmed to do just about anything, even order a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks.
Carterpcs uses his to turn on the flashlight, and took to his platform to share a recent incident with the action button that nearly cost him his life.
Uploaded on November 6, 2023, Carterpcs revealed a recent incident where the action button on his iPhone 15 accidentally triggered the phone’s flashlight while it was in his pocket. “The iPhone 15 action button almost killed me today,” he joked, before pointing out that he might be a little dramatic.
He then explained that he started feeling a “throbbing pain” in his thigh in class, and sat there for a while before realizing it might be due to the iPhone’s flashlight. After connecting the dots, Carter was able to turn off his flashlight and save his leg from any serious heat injury.
And he also has a suggestion for Apple: “I think it’s a pretty easy problem to solve. If the flashlight has been left on for an extended period of time and the camera does not detect anything, simply turn it off after about 5 minutes,” he said.
We don’t know if Carter changed his action button settings after this incident, but it’s likely he’ll be quicker to turn off his flashlight the next time it activates by accident.
