Outgoing French President Emmanuel Macron topped the results of the first round of the presidential elections, which took place on Sunday, with 27.85% of the vote, ahead of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen (23.15%), who will face him in the second round.
The radical left candidate, Jean-Luc Melenchon, left the race with 21.95%, according to the final results issued by the Ministry of the Interior.
The boycott rate reached 26.31% of registered voters, the highest level for a first round of presidential elections following the 28.4% registered in 2002.
