Citizens of the Lebourgneuf sector in Quebec are more than fed up with the Marchand administration, they say, which is only interested in the tramway. They claim a solution to the congestion problems they experience on a daily basis.

“Just to get off my street, it takes me 10 minutes in the morning. It’s time for us to find solutions. I don’t think the bus is one. In the afternoon, it’s the same, it’s always heavy traffic,” reacted Mario Roy, who lives near the intersection of boulevards Lebourgneuf and Robert-Bourassa.
Overpass, viaduct, tunnel, whatever the name, the citizens met near this intersection where more than 70,000 motorists drive daily, are fed up.
“Mayor Marchand, currently, his priority is everything that is done in the upper town with the tramway. We are neglected. We pay the same through our taxes. We won’t benefit from a tram. I don’t agree with that. We are left behind with our problems,” said Lise Paré, another citizen.

“Since Robert-Bourassa was extended to Boulevard Bastien, people have been going through hell. Those who bought condos ten years ago, that’s not what they wanted to live. We have crazy and insane traffic, ”continued Lise Bilodeau, president of the Neufchâtel-Lebourgneuf district council.
“The difficulties are in the morning. It’s always complicated. It is even made that motorists turn in triplicate on the light. They want to go so fast. The speed becomes excessive. People insult each other. It’s absurd to see how things are going,” said Réjean Lebel, who also lives in the area.
“Currently, there is an absence of leadership on the part of the general-in-chief. It is as if Lebourgneuf was isolated from the rest of the city, whereas it is one of the pivots of the city,” said Mr. Lebel.
Opposition
The official opposition to the City of Quebec attacks the mayor and accuses him of having changed his mind on the overpass he had supported in the past.
“We are asking the mayor’s team to listen to reason and to demand that the Ministry of Transport carry out the analyzes and that we can know what is going on,” said Claude Villeneuve, Leader of the Official Opposition. .
According to him, it makes “no sense for the mayor to back down on an idea that he had already supported and that he ignores the will of the citizens by dismissing the scenario of the overpass.”
Mayor Bruno Marchand defended himself by saying he was still in favor of the overpass.
“Everything that is said today by the oppositions is false. It’s pure nonsense. It’s a pure lie,” he said.
“It is a decision of the Ministry of Transport. The City wants an overpass. The City is working to ensure that mobility, in particular for cars and others, is as easy as possible in this sector, which really needs it, ”reacted Mr. Marchand.
The Ministère des Transports (MTQ) claims to have made a wording error in a call for tenders published on June 13 concerning a study of traffic in the Robert-Bourassa boulevard sector, between the Félix-Leclerc highway and Bastien boulevard. He made an addendum on Tuesday replacing the notion of “overpass” for “optimization”, which set fire to the powder. On the side of the ministry, it is said that no decision has yet been made as to the final choice of the solution that will be adopted at this intersection.
