Finding Trustworthy Pet-Sitters in the Walloon Region: What You Need to Know

2023-08-02 19:11:11

During the holidays, what to do with your four-legged friend if he is not on the trip? Not everyone can call on a loved one to take care of their cat, dog or rabbit. More and more “pet-sitters” (or dog-sitters) offer their services on the internet or sometimes via a note in the mailbox. Against payment, they can walk the animals, feed them at home or sometimes even take them into their homes.

This activity is neither protected nor regulated. In the Walloon Region, anyone can become a pet-sitter. No special training is required. No license is required, no special insurance. Trust remains the key word. Voices are being raised for better supervision of the profession. Both on the side of certain pet-sitters who want to avoid abuses (animal welfare, personal safety, etc.), and on the side of animal pensions where the regulations are much stricter. Can anyone become a pet-sitter in the Walloon Region?

This imbalance between the two activities has already been raised with the Walloon government, but the question is not currently a priority.
