Fine Dying is a twist on the idea of ”Fine Dining”, the refined art of the table. The installation mixes the unique creations of nine female and non-binary artists and designers.

In the middle of the 19th century, the English writer Coventry Patmore wrote the poem “The Angel of the House”, in homage to the perfect Victorian woman. Today, Misschiefs pulverizes the angel with its installation FINE DYING, diversion of the idea of ”Fine Dining”, the refined art of the table. The installation combines the unique creations of nine artistsxs and designerxs.

“The Angel of the House” was inspired by Patmore’s first wife, Emily Augusta Andrews, in whom he saw the ideal woman, a graceful, discreet and modest hostess. In a speech delivered in 1931 to the National Society for Women’s Service and published eleven years later under the title “Professions for women”, Virginia Woolf castigates this ideal of the Victorian woman and explains that she had to kill the angel. Creation involves sacrifice.

In 2021, six artistsxs and designersxs are invited by Misschiefs to contribute to the FINE DYING collection, in reference to the thought of Virginia Woolf and the idea of Fine Dining, the refined art of the table. Isa Andersson, ButchXFemme, Lotta Lampa, Anna Nordström, Maria Pita Guerreiro and Sara Szyber then create unique, Gothic, punk and flamboyant objects, which will be placed on a long table. The chic and extravagant atmosphere that emanates from it at first is soon belied by the sharp knives, the blood, the violence that lurks…

This evolving installation, first shown in Stockholm and then in Milan, arrives at the Swedish Institute in September 2023, with the additional participation of French artist Popline Fichot. The Swedish Klara Fahrman and the Norwegian Yngvild Saeter were also invited to present their work outside the bloody table.

The opening of the exhibition will be set to music by DJ MrMaqs and punctuated by performances by artists Vera Jörgensen and Grebnellaw.
