Finval-2023 Military Maneuvers: Russian Navy’s Exercise in the Bering Sea

2023-09-19 04:04:12

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported this Monday the holding of the Finval-2023 military maneuvers in the region of the Bering Sea and the Chukchi Sea in which more than 10,000 sailors from the Pacific Fleet participate, right in a geographic space close to its border with the United States.

“According to objective tracking data, all missiles successfully reached the intended targets, located hundreds of kilometers from the launch points,” highlights the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The exercise, carried out under the command of the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, featured surface and support ships, submarines, aircraft and helicopters, Bal and Bastion coastal missile systems, as well as armored vehicles.

The Bering Sea is right in the strait of the same name, off the coast of Alaska, a US territory, so this type of exercise, as well as overflights on the same border, are usually a warning for the North American country, in the middle of its rivalry with Vladimir Putin over the support given to Ukraine in the war against Moscow.

Destruction of three “aerial objects”

This same Monday, the Russian authorities also took the opportunity to announce, during the night, the destruction of three “aerial objects” that were approaching the city of Belgorod, near the border with Ukraine, without providing further details about the act.

“In the urban district of Shebekinskiy, our air defense has shot down three air objects as they approached the city,” the governor of the Belgorod region, Viacheslav Gladkov, reported on his Telegram account.

Likewise, he reported that there are no victims and, although the possible consequences on the ground are still being investigated, damage to the energy supply systems has already been reported.

Gladkov, in any case, sent a reassuring message assuring that the emergency services will soon solve these problems.

It is worth remembering that, at the end of August, the British Intelligence services stated that Russia’s air defense systems would be having “difficulties” when detecting and destroying drones launched by Ukraine.

This, before emphasizing that “most likely, Russia is rethinking its defensive posture in the area between Ukraine and Moscow to better deal with these attacks.”

In fact, the same source assured last week that Moscow had already managed to “recalibrate the posture” of its air defense systems around the capital in the face of the latest attacks within the framework of the invasion of Ukraine, unleashed in February 2022. .

For their part, the Ukrainian authorities claimed the seizure of the town of Klishchiivka, a town of tactical importance near the city of Bakhmut, located in the east of the country.
