The explosion involved a vehicle in a garage. It is still unknown what the cause is. Dozens of windows in homes and buildings in the area were also shattered.

Due to the large amount of smoke released by the fire, an NL Alert has been sent. The call is to stay away from smoke, close windows and doors and turn off ventilation.

It is currently known that 1 person was injured in the explosion. This was transported to the hospital.

The fire is in the roof and the fire brigade cannot easily reach it. An adjacent fireworks store has been evacuated as a precaution. To prevent the fire from spreading to the supermarket on the other side, a building in between must be demolished.

Those affected are accommodated in Sports Hall de Wielewaal on Brammertstraat. RET buses are ready at Langenhorst to transport those affected. The fire brigade estimates that it will take at least several hours. The Slinge is closed to through traffic near Langenhorst. Due to the long-term efforts and arranging care for the residents, the emergency services have declared GRIP-2. The crisis team in the WPC is dealing with this. The Incident Scene Command (CoPI) focuses on firefighting.
