Fire at mosque in Egypt; 41 dead – Egypt Church Fire

CAIRO – At least 41 people were killed in a fire at a Coptic mosque in Imbaba, Giza, Egypt, during mass on Sunday. 45 people were injured. The fire was due to an electrical short circuit. The fire broke out from the air conditioner on the second floor of the four-storied Abu Sifin mosque at 9 am yesterday.

About five thousand people were in the church. Most of the dead were children in the nursery room of the church. Many people fell down the stairs in the stampede. The fire brigade rushed to put out the fire but due to the stampede more people were in danger.

Giza is the second largest city in Egypt on the banks of the Nile. This is the worst fire disaster in Egypt in recent times. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his deep sorrow.
