At around 2:45 p.m., residents became aware of a fire in the kitchen of the municipal office on the first floor because dark smoke was coming from the window. The emergency services who were notified were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
According to the police, an event with around 100 guests had previously taken place. These were catered for by a catering company. When the mayor was the last to leave the building around 2:30 p.m., he didn’t smell any smoke, says Wolfgang Kreinecker.
The first floor of the Hinzenbach municipal office was badly affected and rooms were damaged. People were not injured.
Ceramic hob switched on
The assessment of the fire site by the district fire investigator and a fire expert revealed that the ceramic hob’s switch-on button had probably been pressed while they were putting things together in the kitchen. A coffee machine was placed on it and it caught fire.
The Hinzenbach and Eferding fire departments with 35 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire.
