First Gulf Youth Games in UAE: Sports Facilities, Competitions & Readiness

The Organizing Committee of the First Gulf Youth Games announced the readiness of all sports facilities to host the First Gulf Youth Games competitions, and the provision of all requirements and equipment in the five host cities, namely Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah, in coordination with the National Olympic Committee and the Authority. The UAE will host the first Gulf Youth Games, from April 16 to May 2, with the participation of 3,500 male and female athletes from all Gulf Cooperation Council countries competing in 26 different individual and team sports, under the slogan “Our Gulf is One… Our Youth is Promising.”
The Emirate of Abu Dhabi hosts competitions in football, swimming, judo, cycling (Masar), sailing, ju-jitsu, and boxing. Dubai hosts table tennis, athletics, volleyball, e-sports, athletics for people of determination, and golf, and competitions are held in Sharjah. Basketball 3×3, handball, karate, chess, bow and arrow, equestrian “show jumping and dressage”, and cycling “track”. Fujairah hosts taekwondo, fencing and badminton competitions, and Ajman hosts triathlon competitions.
Nabil Ashour, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the First Gulf Youth Games “Emirates 2024,” stressed the organizing committee’s keenness to provide the requirements of all Gulf teams, including training stadiums and equipment, and achieving a historic hosting of the first edition that reflects the good reputation that the UAE enjoys in organizing major sporting events and events.
He confirmed that all stadiums and sports facilities that were listed to host official competitions have been 99% approved, pending the completion of the remaining steps to approve all stadiums.
He pointed out that all sports facilities in the country are ready to host sporting events, and that accreditation is merely a measure to ensure their complete readiness.
He said: “All facilities are 100% ready to host various sporting events, but there are some facilities and stadiums that require additional special equipment, because they will host specialized sports such as equestrian, bow and arrow, and chess. They will be visited to find out the latest preparations, because they must be ready for training.” also”.
Nabil Ashour also revealed that the distribution of the games between the regions of the country was done in consultation between the relevant federations and the organizing committee of the tournament, explaining that, for example, it was decided to hold jiu-jitsu in Abu Dhabi, which is considered the cradle of this sport, padel in Dubai, and handball competitions in Sharjah, due to its popularity there.
Regarding the arrival dates of the participating teams to the country, Nabil Ashour confirmed that the dates vary according to the competition schedule, noting that each team in any game will arrive one day before the technical meeting.
He added that representatives from each emirate have been appointed to facilitate the process of communication and coordination with government agencies, to provide all means of comfort for all participating teams.
The Organizing Committee of the First Gulf Youth Games approved the nomination of Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Director of Technical and Sports Affairs at the National Olympic Committee, as Director of the UAE sports delegation to the tournament.
The meeting of delegation directors will be held in Dubai with the participation of all delegation directors of the sisterly Gulf countries participating in the event on April 14th. This is to monitor all developments regarding the hosting sports facilities, accommodation, transportation mechanisms, and receiving delegations.
Ahmed Al-Tayeb expressed his pride in this great confidence from the organizing committee of the tournament, headed by Fares Mohammed Al-Mutawa, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee and Vice-President of the Supreme Committee of the tournament, to assume the task of managing the sports delegation, especially since the Gulf Forum is being held on the territory of the UAE. This requires redoubled efforts and continuous coordination to achieve a rapid response element to meet all the needs of the Emirati delegation carrying the nation’s flag in this session.
