First Indian player to play in UEFA Champions League; Manisha Kalyan on the historic achievement

Manisha Kalyan became the first Indian player to play in the UEFA Champions League. Manisha, who plays for Apollon Ladies in Cyprus, achieved this feat yesterday. Manisha was on the field for 40 minutes in the match against Rigas FS. 20-year-old Manisha joined Apollon Ladies last month from iLeague club Gokulam Kerala.

This was Manisha’s first match for the club. In the match, Apollon beat Rigas FS by three goals to none. With this win, Apollon reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round.

Manisha has performed magnificently for Gokulam Kerala. Gokulam were the winners in both the seasons they played in the women’s league. Manisha’s role in this was huge. The easy scorer scored 21 goals in 24 matches for Gokulam. Manisha also became the first Indian player to score in an Asian Club Championship match when she scored against Uzbekistan’s Bunyodkar in last year’s AFC Women’s Club Championship.
