Toledo – Spanish cycling icon Federico Bahamontes has died at the age of 95. This was confirmed by the mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez Romo, on Tuesday. Bahamontes, born in Santo Domingo-Caudilla near the capital of Castile-La Mancha, was the first Spaniard to win the Tour de France in 1959, and he won the Great Loop climb six times. A brand that was only surpassed much later by the Frenchman Richard Virenque. Since the death of Frenchman Roger Walkowiak in February 2017, the “Adler von Toledo” had been the oldest living overall winner of the tour.
