Five Indonesian Migrant Workers in Taiwan received Awards – 2024-05-02 22:31:38

FIVE Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) received awards as exemplary workers from the New Taipei City authorities.

“It feels ndredeg (shaking),” said Syifanul Janah, 41, a PMI from Demak who works as a nurse in a nursing home, quoted from a written statement from the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) Taipei, Tuesday (30/4).

Apart from Syifanul, the four other PMIs who received awards were Samikhun, 40, a factory worker from Cilacap; Umi Kulsum, 28, home nurse from Ngawi; Siti Purnati, 54, home nurse from Kendal; and Titinih, 41. nurse at home from Indramayu.

The PMIs have worked in Taiwan for 1.5 years to 14 years. There were 247 workers from several countries who also received the award.

“My appreciation and struggle in Taiwan is dedicated to the late mother and child who lived far apart for 12.5 years,” said Titinih.

As a factory worker, Samikhun said that diligence and enthusiasm for work were the main keys to him being awarded an award as an exemplary worker, while Umi Kulsum, who works as a nurse at home, advised other PMIs to work well.

“We have to work well, if we have intended to come here, we have to treat our patients like our own family,” said Umi Kulsum.

Meanwhile, Siti Purnati admitted that her prayers and efforts led her to work for a patient employer even though at the start of her work she still did not fully master the local language.

In his speech, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Youyi appreciated all workers for helping to encourage the economy and development of New Taipei City.

Apart from that, Hou also hopes that a national holiday for workers which is a promise from the Taiwanese authorities can be realized as soon as possible. (Ant/Z-1)
