Flemish Government Opposition to New Roads Causing Noise Pollution in Brussels Outskirts

The Flemish government had opposed the new roads introduced in October. The latter had, according to a study by the Flemish Environment Administration, caused “stronger noise pollution, day and night, in the north and north-west of the Brussels outskirts”, therefore in Flanders for the benefit of the Brussels Region.

These latter routes had been implemented to comply with European rules. The Minister of Mobility Georges Gilkinet assured that there was no question of “discreetly moving the nuisances to Flanders”, and that they might be modified if this was the case.

The Dutch-speaking Brussels court did not add a penalty payment to its decision because it considers “that there is no reason to believe that the defendant (the FPS Mobility) will not comply with the measure”.
